Akwaaduo (Ash), March 31, GNA – The chiefs and people of Akwaaduo in the Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma district are constructing an 80 million-cedi teachers’ quarters to provide decent accommodation for teachers posted to the community.
They have so far spent 60 million cedis on the project that is targeted to be ready for occupation by September this year. Nana Adomako Amponsah II, the chief of the town, said at a fund raising durbar organised in aid of its completion that a special development levy had been imposed on the people to finance the project. Resident male and female citizens pay 10,000 and 5,000 cedis respectively while non-residents contribute 30,000 cedis a man and 20,000 cedis a woman.
The chief noted that the successful completion of the project would attract qualified trained teachers to accept postings there and appealed to the citizens to pay their levies promptly.
Mr Simon Osei-Mensah, Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, praised the community for its initiative and assured them of his personal support.
He said as part of efforts at improving education in the area, he has decided to award scholarship to 10 deserving students to pursue secondary school education.
Mr Bright Addai-Mununkum, the District Chief Executive, said the assembly would this year complete a six-classroom block it was building for the local primary school.
An amount of 5.4 million cedis was raised at the function.
