Pollster Ben Ephson has warned the impeachment attempts being made at NPP national chairman Paul Afoko and general secretary Kwabena Agyepong could end up in court if not managed well.
According to him, the crisis in the opposition party can only be tamed by the flagbearer.
Six regional branches of the party have passed a vote of no confidence in Afoko and Agyepong following their alleged involvement in the killing of the Upper East regional chairman of the party Adams Mahama.
Agyepong’s email account was allegedly hacked on Tuesday to send out a statement of his resignation, a move he has vehemently denied.
Commenting on the development on Morning Starr Wednesday, the editor of the Dispatch newspaper said the Danquah-Busia-Dombo tradition is on a self-destruction course.
“If Akufo-Addo keeps quiet over this issue, he is putting sand into his gari (a local staple).
“The failure of Nana Addo to come out and speak on this matter is fuelling perceptions,” he said.
He also noted that he will be very surprised if Mr Agyepong decides to bow to pressure and resign his post.
“I will be surprised, whoever released that letter; it’s counterproductive.
“What is happening now is just like what happened in 1979 when the progress party got split up, they should just go back and check their history.
“But in this scenario, if they try anything illegal in the attempt to impeach them, it could end up in court”.
