Akufo-Addo’s ‘one factory per district’ impossible – Economist

An Economist and a political science lecturer at the Kumasi Polytechnic, Mr. Kusi Boafo says the “1-District-1 Factory” promised by flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, cannot be possible, based on the country’s current economic situation.

Speaking on Atinka AM Drive on Monday, Boafo said considering the nation’s current economic crises, constructing and efficiently managing factories at each district by the government cannot be achieved now.

He added that what the government can do is to ‘create an enabling environment for private partnership or to enable the private sector to promote industrialisation.

Mr. Kusi Boafo said, “government can revolve around private individuals who have interest and expertise in establishing and running factories so, in every region or district, government can partner interested private individuals in those ventures”.

Mr Kusi Boafo, who is also a farmer, however, said selfless and honest leaders can improve the economy with the right policies

He said Ghana has suffered amateurish governance under corrupt and dishonest leaders who always protect their interests “so before this Akufo Addo’s dream can become a reality, there must be fair, faithful and honest leaders because the only tool Ghana needs now is truthful and selfless leaders”.
