Akufo-Addo’s meeting with the press not to praise himself – Mustapha Hamid

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s maiden encounter with the press is not for self-glorification according to Minister for Information, Mustapha Hamid.

His interaction which comes off today Tuesday, July 18, 2017, at the Flagstaff House, is to account for his stewardship since he took over as president on January 7, 2017.

“The president will make a few remarks, as a way of accounting to the people and open himself up for questions from the journalists”, he revealed.

“This press conference by the president is in line with his pledge when he took over office to be accountable, open and accessible to the Ghanaian people.

“He thinks this accountability and interaction with the Ghanaian people is a democratic requirement that as a democratic president, once a while you come back to the people and tell them what you are doing with the mandate,” Mr Hamid said.

The President is likely to answer questions on the controversial $2.25 billion bond issue, the Chinese loan, Delta Force and Invincible Force raids, the recent spate of armed robberies among other teething issues in the country.

It will also not be surprising if the BOST issue is raised and the President’s commitment to fighting corruption.
