Akufo-Addo was devastated at the state of KATH maternity block – Minister

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah has said, the tour of President Nana Akufo-Addo forms part of his accountable governance process and to also thank residents in the region.

The Minister said the president was also devastated at the current state of the Maternity Block at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and has assured that, the project which was started some 40 years ago would be completed before the close of this year.

He said, although the president touched on a number of projects, he was ”devastated by the poor state of the maternity block.

The regional minister stressed the project would be completed since it is a disgrace for the country. Meanwhile, $70 million is needed to complete block began in 1974 and believed to be key in easing fatal congestion at the hospital.

A least, four babies die every day at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, authorities have said. The construction work is 30% while the equipment and mechanical engineering is 70% of the work, consultants have explained.
