Akufo-Addo visits Volta Region flood victims

Adaklu-Waya, Aug 10, GNA – Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), on Tuesday visited some communities affected by recent floods in the Volta Region to express his sympathy to the victims.

“Any mishap that affects any Ghanaian anywhere, affects all of us, I am deeply touched,” he told crowds that gathered at Adaklu-Anfoe, Adaklu-Waya and Agotime-Kpetoe and other places to welcome him.

The NPP fladbearer said the tour was after his return from South Africa, where he attended to an important assignment, which prevented him from visiting the victims earlier.

At Adaklu-Waya, Nana Akufo-Addo presented 500 Ghana cedis to Alice Tigri, mother of Mansa Tigri, who died as a result of the floods.

Nana Akufo-Addo pledged to donate 50 bags of cement within days towards work on a four-unit classroom block, which community members were working on when he (Nan Akufo-Addo) arrived.

Mr Boakye Agyako, Akufo-Addo’s Campaign Manager, and other members of the team joined members of the community to pack newly produced blocks.

Nana Akufo-Addo said that arrangements had been made for donation of relief items to support the victims.

Among the entourage were Mr Ernest Gaewu, Dr Archibald Letsa and Mr David Dzorkpe, NPP Parliamentary candidates for the Ho-West, Ho-Central and Ho-East constituencies respectively and NPP Regional executives.

Chiefs at the communities in their speeches complained about bad roads, difficulty in accessing healthcare and the delay in carving out Adaklu area as a district.

Heavy rains in parts of the Volta Region bloated rivers, especially River Tordze, which broke bounds, inundating farms and killing one person.
