The 2012 Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo Saturday took his listening campaign to the Lower Manya constituency to begin the second part of his tour of the Eastern region.
Touring the Kpong Township, residents told Nana Addo that “we have blindly voted for the NDC over the years but now our eyes are wide open. We will vote for the party that can bring us development and that is the NPP.”
He was mobbed by residents, hawkers and market women who abandoned their wares to catch a glimpse of him. They complained about increasing hardships and poverty adding that “it was not like this under NPP. Those days, business and work was good so we could make a living.”
He also toured the Kpong lorry station and interacted with the leadership of the GPRTU and the Kpong Co-operative Transport Society.
At Nuaso, residents complained about bad roads, the need for a clinic and lack of jobs for the youth. They said the NDC government has neglected them, failing to fulfill the many promises that they made to them during the 2008 campaign.
The story was no different at Manya Kpongour with residents complaining about jobless youth and high cost of living amongst others.
The atmosphere was charged when Nana Addo got to the Agormanya market. Commercial activity came to a halt as traders, market women and commercial drivers mobbed him.
Amidst singing and dancing, they complained about collapsing social interventions, high cost of living, jobs for the youth, road tolls, LPG shortage, insensitive taxes and bad roads amongst others.
Nana Addo also walked through the Odumase and Asitey townships, interacting with residents and assuring them that better days are coming to Ghana again.
On Sunday, Nana Addo started his tour with visits to the Akropong Presbyterian Church. Nana Addo told the congregation that “it’s always a pleasure to worship with the Presbytarian church.”
He spoke about the impending biometric registration exercise and called on all who are qualified under the law to make it a point to register when the EC opens the process for the exercise later this year.
He said “that is the only way you can exercise your franchise when the time comes.”
He said “we have all embraced the democratic process and therefore it is the thumb that is supreme now.
“It was the thumb that gave us the Kufuor government, which brought massive development and growth to Ghana and it is that same thumb that has brought this current NDC government that has put our country back on the reverse gear.”
He humbly urged them to vote for him and the NPP in 2012 so that Ghana can move forward again.
The Presiding Bishop, Rev. Nyarko prayed God’s blessing, guidance and wisdom for Nana Addo as he travels around the country with his campaign.
Nana Addo then moved to the Okroase Presbyterian Church and the Ebenezer Society Methodist Church, also at Okroase, where he worshipped with them.
Nana Addo then toured Tinlong, Mangoase, Adwaso, Kwamoso, Mamfe, Makrong, Mampong Larteh and Akropong to conclude his tour of the Akropong constituency.
