Akufo-Addo reiterates commitment to making teaching attractive

President Akufo-Addo says his government will restore the teaching profession to the status it once enjoyed and make it an attractive career choice.

Speaking at the 90th anniversary of Krobo Girls Senior High School, President Akufo-Addo said the government will introduce special incentives to teachers.

The Krobo Girls’ School was built in 1923 at the Abokobi Presbyterian Mission house in Accra. The School was moved to its current location a year later by the Based Mission.

The school takes pride in discipline, high moral standards and academic excellence.

President Akufo-Addo said his government will place emphasis on science, technical and vocational education, adding that investment in education is the most effective measure to improve its standards.

He stressed that educating girls has the tendency to reduce infant mortality and fertility rates. It is in this regard that government is focusing on improving educational standards and making it accessible to all.

President Akufo-Addo said citizens can make informed choices if they are empowered with the capacity to make such choices.

The President explained why the government is making education at the Senior High level free.

The President outlined some incentives his government will introduce to make working conditions of teachers better.

The Minister of Gender and Social Protection, Otiko Afisa Djaba said lip service should not be paid to women.

The Headmistress of the school, Cecilia Obenewaa Appiah, mentioned accommodation as one of the challenges facing the school and appealed to the government to construct a home economics block for the school.
