Akufo-Addo must not contest 2016 – Alottey Jacobs

Contrary to hints by the General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwd Owusu Afriyie, also known as Sir John, to the effect that the 2012 presidential candidate of his party, Nana Akufo-Addo, will contest in the 2016 elections, the central regional communications director of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Allotey Jacobs, says Nana Addo should take a back seat and help reconstruct the NPP.

He said “it is time for Nana Akufo-Addo to stay behind the scenes and help refine his party.

It’s going to be hell in the NPP, I foresee a lot of troubles emerging within Nana’s party, and it will be best if he takes a back seat and works as an arbiter to bring the feuding factions together.”

According to Mr. Allotey Jacobs, inasmuch as he congratulated Nana Akufo-Addo for accepting the Supreme Court verdict and asking his party (NPP) not to seek review, he believes Nana was not destined to be president and the need to stay back and be a ‘king maker’.

He said it is imperative for Nana Akufo-Addo to stay behind the scenes and help rebuild his party: “the party has to be refined and find its level before coming to face the NPP in 2016”.

On whether Nana Addo had an option on the acceptance of the Supreme Court judgment and call for no review, Mr. Allotey Jacobs said Nana Made a bold decision to accept the results because Ghanaians love peace and had to go with it.

“he swallowed his pride and accepted the verdict, let’s celebrate him for contributing to the sustenance of the country’s peace and security per that singular act.”

It is important for Nana Akufo-Addo to find solutions to the “fire coming from the mountain” and not for Nana to think of contesting 2016.

He said the NDC has learnt its mistakes and is now a formidable party poised to support President Mahama to succeed and go ahead to win in 2016; the need for the NPP to prepare well and not take hasty decisions.
