The New Patriotic Party (NPP), will on Friday, head to court after gathering all the evidence needed to prove that Nana Akufo-Addo, the party’s presidential candidate, was shortchanged in the 2012 General Election.
The opposition party insists the results of this year’s elections were rigged in favour of President Mahama, and that the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) colluded with some Electoral Commission officials to fix the results.
Though the EC has already gazetted the results of the 2012 elections, the NPP seems undeterred in its quest to seek legal redress.
The party claims having scrutinised the results of about 26,000 polling stations across the country, it is convinced it has a solid case to take to the Supreme Court to overturn the election results that made President John Dramani Mahama winner of the 2012 presidential election.
Ahead of tomorrow’s historic filing, the NPP will hold a press conference on the petition to the Supreme Court challenging the election results as declared on 9th December.
The conference, which will be held at the Alisa Hotel in Accra, will be addressed by the party’s National Chairman, Jake Obetsebi Lamptey; the 2012 Presidential Candidate of the NPP, Nana Akufo-Addo; and the Vice Presidential Candidate of the NPP, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
A statement issued to that effect by the Communications Director of the NPP, Nana Akomea, requested that journalists come along with their press tags for identification purposes.
