Akufo-Addo marks 69th anniversary of UGCC formation

Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Thursday, August 4 commemorated the 69th anniversary of the formation of the United Gold Coast Convention (UGCC).

UGCC was the first political party to be formed in the Gold Coast to fight for independence.

It was founded on August 4, 1947 at Saltpond in the Central Region. Paying tribute to the establishment of the party, from which the NPP tradition emanates, Nana Akufo-Addo credited the party for Ghana’s March 6, 1957 independence.

“We must continue to honour this day, and the men and women who participated in these historic events which led to our national independence and freedom,” a statement he issued on Thursday said. “May the Almighty God continue to bless them and give their souls peaceful rest.”
