Akufo-Addo-led gov’t has no commitment to fight corruption – Minority

The Minority in Parliament has launched a scathing attack on the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government, saying they have displayed no commitment to fighting corruption.

“What we have been treated to in this embarrassing spectacle is a new government that has arrived to dash the hopes of many Ghanaians,” Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu said on Wednesday.

He was addressing a number of issues notable among them is the sale of contaminated fuel by the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Limited (BOST). The Minority has called for the head of BOST, accusing him of owning two unlicensed companies, which were unlawfully engaged with in the sale of the off-spec products.

At a meeting with journalists at Parliament, Mr Iddrisu, who is also Member for Tamale South Constituency, said Tuesday, July 4 was “Ghana’s day of shame” due to an announcement by the Minister of Energy to clear BOST’s Managing Director of any wrongdoing.

“This naked coverup is an insult to Ghanaians and an affront to the laws of Ghana,” the legal practitioner said.

The signs are now crystal clear that the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government has no commitment to fighting corruption.”

UNTOUCHABLE

He described the New Patriotic Party’s approach to fighting the canker as made up of press conferences “to equalize as the Majority in Parliament shamelessly exhibited last week”.

He called on Ghanaians to demand transparency and accountability from the government, revealing that BOST MD Alfred Obeng Boateng has become “untouchable” because he is said to have contributed financially to the campaign of the NPP in 2016.
