Akufo-Addo leaves for Luxembourg

Accra, May 18, GNA – The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nana Akufo-Addo who is also MP for Abuakwa, left Accra on Tuesday night to attend the 7th ECOWAS-EU Ministerial Troika Meeting, which opens in Luxembourg on Wednesday.

The ECOWAS-EU Troika consists of Luxembourg as President of the EU, UK (the next president of the EU) and the EU Commission and Niger current Chair of ECOWAS, Ghana, immediate past chair and Dr. Mohammed Ibn Chambas, ECOWAS Executive Secretary.

In a statement, Mr Michael Ofori-Atta, Public Relations Officer at the Minister’s office, said the meeting would, among other things consider regional integration, trade and the security situation in West Africa.

It would also discuss specific security issues such as the conversion of the ECOWAS Small Arms Moratorium into a Convention as well as Security Sector Reform in the West African sub-region.

From Luxembourg, Nana Akufo-Addo would proceed to Abuja, Nigeria to attend an AU meeting on the Togolese political crisis being convened by President Olusengun Obasanjo, Chairman of the African Union. Nana Akufo-Addo would return to Accra on May 20.
