Akufo-Addo creates Zongo ministry

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has announced the creation of the Ministry for Inner City and Zongo Development.

As a campaign promise, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) said it would assist Zongos – predominantly Muslim settlements in cities – with the setting up of a Zongo Development Fund to give such communities a facelift.

In line with this, Mr Akufo-Addo announced the creation of the Ministry for Inner City and Zongo Development at the Flagstaff House in Accra on Thursday January 12.

Announcing Boniface Abubakar Saddique as the sector Minister, Mr Akufo-Addo reiterated his commitment to assist Muslim communities in Ghana.

In pursuit of that ambition, the government has promised to capture the Zongo Development Fund in its first budget statement later in the year.
