Former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings has asked critics of the Akufo-Addo government to hush up since they cannot expect the new administration to use 100 days to fix the destruction caused by the past administration in the last eight years.
“A party has taken eight years to destroy us and you expect somebody to use 100 days to fix it?” she asked, adding the President Akufo-Addo must be given time to fix the country.
Mrs Agyeman-Rawlings, who contested the 2016 presidential elections on the ticket of the National Democratic Party (NDP), told Joy FM’s Lexiz Bill on Personality Profile on Thursday that she was happy the Mahama administration and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) were voted out of office.
“I am happy there is a change…I am very happy…because you can’t have a situation where we claim to be doing well, calling ourselves lower-middle income group, and in a miserable situation,” she said.
She said ahead of the 7 December 2016 elections, “I went round the country and I saw poverty staring at me.” “The likes of poverty that I hadn’t seen since 1982(3) and it gripped my heart and touched every part of my body that this has to change.”
Mrs Agyeman-Rawlings said she left the NDC, founded by her husband Jerry John Rawlings to form the NDP because “… I am somebody who believes in honesty and hard work. As things started changing I advised myself.”
She also said respect in the NDC waned to the level that even her husband was disrespected. “We reached that level where the respect for the founder was not there,” she complained.
