A founder-member of Ghana’s biggest opposition party, Joshua Attoh Quarshie, has accused the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Akufo-Addo, of being behind the internal wars within the Danquah-Busia-Dombo family.
“Since Nana Akufo-Addo became flagbearer of this party, he’s been creating trouble everywhere.
“If you people don’t realise it, I know. Look, Nana Addo, when the father was going right, he was going left. And [after] the Kotoka coup, they wanted to arrest him, and they bundled him to France.
“He knows what I’m saying. The people who are following him do not know. I know communism, I know Animal Farm…Nana Addo is the cause of the whole thing,” Mr Quarshie told Class News reporter, Parker Wilson, who was at the venue of a botched anti-Akufo-Addo press conference on Tuesday December 8, 2015 in Chorkor within the Ablekuma South constituency.
Gunshots were fired by some political activists of the party, amidst a rumpus between Mr Quarshie and the NPP’s constituency executives, who opposed the planned press conference.
The media event was violently interrupted by the constituency executives, who said Mr Quarshie needed their blessing first, before going ahead with such an event, since they were the custodians of the party in the constituency.
The angry constituency executives vandalised chairs and canopies for the press conference before it could even start, according to Class News reporter Parker Wilson, who said he heard gunshots.
“The vandalisation …does not bother me at all, because I know where they come from and I know the people behind, but some of us fought tooth and nail to obtain freedom and justice in this country, so, what they are doing is child’s play. If we want war, we could have waged war…I’m going to reorganise myself…If they are men, they should come and face us…” Mr Quarshie threatened when he spoke to Parker Wilson.
“People, who are cowards around Nana Akufo-Addo are doing all these things,” he alleged, adding: “I know I can face them…”
When put to him by Parker Wilson that the constituency executives said he should have sought their express permission before organising the press conference, Mr Quarshie retorted: “Do they write to anyone before they hold a press conference….I’m an individual, there’s freedom of expression, so, I’ve got a right to hold a press conference at anywhere and at any time.”
