Akuapem Paramount Chief celebrates 20th anniversary

Aburi (E/R), Aug. 7, GNA – Otoobour Nana Djan Kwasi II, Paramount Chief of the Akuapem Anafo Traditional Area, on Friday celebrated the 20th anniversary of his installation, with a call on Ghanaians to preserve their cultural heritage for future generations. Addressing a colourful durbar at Aburi to mark the occasion, Otoobour Kwasi II said Ghanaians must understand their culture and use it positively to promote development.

Mr Godfried Osei Bonsu-Twum, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Akuapem South, said government would address the problems frustrating the development of the creative arts, including music and film production.

He announced that Government would complete the abandoned Regional Centre for National Culture and establish branches in all the district capitals in the region.

Mr Bonsu-Twum said the crafts market in the area would also be reconstructed and made more functional.

“The preservation and development of our culture is part of the agenda of the ruling National Democratic Congress”, he said, adding that government recognises the importance of social and cultural unity as instruments of national development.

Mr Bonsu-Twum said a Palace Fund would be instituted to construct a modern palace complex for the paramount chief of the area. The palace, which would comprise a forecourt, museum, and secretariat, would be completed during the Silver Jubilee of Otoobour Nana Djan II, the MCE said. He indicated that the Akuapem South Municipal Assembly had procured a grader to work on the roads in the municipality. 7 Aug. 09
