Akua Donkor’s ‘under age’ running mate to face prosecution

The Vice presidential candidate of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), Mrs Patricia Asante may face criminal prosecution if she’s found to have voted in the previous elections.

The Electoral Commission made the disclosure after it emerged that the running mate gave her year of birth on the party’s Presidential nomination forms as 1998 making her below the age of registration to vote as stipulated by the constitution.

The presidential candidate of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), Madam Akua Donkor last week introduced her running mate to the public after she settled on Mrs. Patricia Asante, who was said to be a 32-year-old farmer.

She said Mrs. Asante was picked because she has what it takes to do a good job.
But addressing the media after the close of nominations for the 2016 election on Monday, the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Mrs Charlotte Osei stated that the Vice Presidential candidate is not qualified for that high office on the basis of age.

“The date of birth given is October 15, 1998 making her below the age for registration and we may possibly have to call on the police to investigate a case of minor registration if the candidate is a valid voter”.
