Akropong School for the Blind appeals for help

Akropong, July 5, GNA – The headmistress of the Akropong School for the Blind, Ms Mahela Narh, has appealed to philanthropists and other Non-Government Organizations (NGOs) to assist them improve on the infrastructure of the school. She said they needed to change the leaking roofing sheets of the gir ls’ dormitories as a result of which the students were finding it difficult t o sleep in their dormitories.

Ms Narh made the appeal when the Audit Service of Ghana, as part of the centenary celebration, donated items worth GH¢2000 and cash of GH¢ 10 00 to the school at the weekend. She also appealed to organizations to help the school obtain a generator and stabilizers to help it store its foods and ensure the safe ty of the students.

Ms Narh said the plant was necessary since there had been frequent power outages and due to their vision impairment the students had problem s going on their normal duties at night. She expressed profound gratitude to the Audit Service for the donati on. Mr George Winful, Assistant Auditor General in charge of Public Relations, said the gesture indicated that they were giving back to the society the benefits of what society had given to them. He said the donation was not going to be the last since the school w as a very special one, which needed a special attention. Mr Winful expressed appreciation to organizations which supported th em to make the donation possible. Items donated included bags of rice and maize, fruits, detergents, toiletries, sugar, cooking oil and bread. 05 July 10
