Akosa: Rawlings, Kufuor are not statesmen

Former Presidential Aspirant of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Prof. Agyeman Badu Akosa, says neither former President Jerry Rawlings nor his successor John Kufuor, is a statesman.

According to him, both former presidents are “too partisan” with regard to their public commentary on national issues, thus not meriting the crown of statesmanship.

“There’s no former president in Ghana who is a statesman”, Prof. Akosa told Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen afternoon political programme.

He repeated his stance even after the Host had repeatedly sought clarification from him about whether the only two living former presidents were fell within his category.

Speaking about Rawlings’ recent outbursts about the rot within the presidency, Prof. Akosa said on Monday that the former president chose the wrong platform to air his concerns.

Rawlings recently chastised President Mahama’s inability to keep “the bad ones” and “crookish monsters” away from the Presidency. Directly advising the president, at a special congregation at the University of Development Studies in the Northern regional capital Tamale on Saturday, Rawlings said Mr. Mahama must learn to keep the “crookish monsters” and “greedy bad ones” away from him.

Prof. Akosa, however, said Mr. Rawlings should have expressed his concerns privately without blurting them out to the whole world.
