Akosa is President of C’wealth Medical Association

Cape Coast, Nov. 10 GNA- Professor Agyemang Badu Akosa, Director-General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) on Wednesday, assumed the mantle of office, as the new President of the Commonwealth Medical Association (CMA), for a three year-term.

The scroll of office was handed over to him by Dr Patrick Krishnan, immediate past President of the CMA, at the joint 20th Triennial Consultative Conference of the CMA and the 46th annual general conference of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), currently underway at Cape Coast.

At the handing over ceremony, was among other dignitaries, Dr. Kwaku Afriyie, Minister of Health, who stood in for President John Agyekum Kufuor and executives of the CMA.

Prof. Akosa promised in his acceptance speech, to work assiduously towards the realisation of the objectives of the Association. He therefore, appealed to the members of the Association to assist him discharge his duties efficiently and effectively.

In a related development, Prof. Akosa, Dr Edward Jaedar of the Wa Regional Hospital and Prof David Adjei, Director of the Ngouchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research, who have been elected fellows of the GMA, for their dedicated services, were presented with certificates of honour, accompanied by citations describing their various contributions to the medical field.

Dr. James Fordjour of the Sunyani Regional hospital and Dr. Mawuko Akunnor an Ophthalmologist at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, also received special commendation awards from the GMA for their meritorious services to the Association.
