Akim Begoro set-up task force on illegal felling of trees

Akim Begoro, Sept. 6, GNA – Akim Begoro in the Fanteakwa District has set up forestry task force to check activities of chain saw operators to prevent illegal felling of trees in the area. Speaking to Ghana News Agency at Akim Osino on Monday, Mr Bright Annan, Deputy Manager of the Forestry Department at Begoro, said illegal felling of trees was gaining grounds in the area with chain saw operators working deep in the night.

He said the task force was working round the clock to check the nefarious activities of the chainsaw operators in the Fanteakwa District.

Mr Annan said cutting down of trees was destroying farms and wasting farmers’ efforts in producing food to feed the nation. He said the chainsaw operators go about their business sometimes fully armed.

He, therefore, suggested that members of the task force should also be armed in order to face them squarely.
