Akatsi North youth cry for jobs

A group calling itself “Concerned Youth of Akatsi North” in the Volta Region has appealed to government to come to their aid by providing them with job opportunities and credit facilities to better their lives.

The group led by its convener, Daniel Lumor, told the Ghana News Agency that their area has become “so dry and hard that one finds it difficult to accept that we now have our own district and constituency”.

According to the convener, apart from a few youth, who are into the “okada” business, the rest of them do not have anything profitable to do, adding that, “We do farming alright but the rains won’t come for us to harvest anything substantial”.

He said it was sad that their area is not benefiting from any of the government’s social intervention programmes, such as GYEEDA, LESDEP and MASLOC funds, adding that, “even if they are around, we don’t see them working. A lot of us have certificates, diplomas and degrees in various fields but can’t get jobs to do. We need some money to start something”.
