Akatsi District teachers hold delegates conference

Akasti (V/R), May 17, GNA – The outgoing District Chief Executive for Akatsi, Mr Nicholas Kofi Negble, has urged teachers to use the classroom to educate pupils on poverty reduction, adding, “an improved formal education is a tool for the eradication of ignorance, one of the causes of poverty”.

He stated this in an address on his behalf by Mr Jacob Dixom-Mensah, Akatsi District Co-ordinating Director, at the opening of the second quadrennial district delegates’ conference of Akatsi District Branch of Ghana National Association of Teachers at Akatsi last Thursday under the theme “Challenges to the provision of quality education in Ghana”. Mr Negble praised teachers in the district for the performance of their children in the Basic Education Certificate Examination last year and said the District Assembly would institute an incentive package for hard working teachers.

Mr Stephen G.K. Akli, a retired educationist stressed the need for quality education through effective teaching and learning and observed that the school curriculum had everything to push Ghana’s development and progress forward.

Mr Akli urged the government, the Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service and Curriculum Research Development Division to pursue a vigorous guidance and counselling programme in the educational system to enable the country to reach the level of development Ghanaians envisaged for the nation.

In an address read on behalf of the District Director of Education of Akatsi, Mrs Cecilia Pomary, she cautioned teachers to eschew vices that militated against academic and professional excellence and to work hard to develop the human resource base of the country.
