Ajumako residents undergo biometric voters’ registration process

Thirty-three departmental heads, including traditional rulers, the security and media personnel in the Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam District have ended a day-long dialogue on the biometric voters’ registration scheduled to start on March 24, 2012.

The event is part of activities aimed at enhancing the credibility of the 2012 national election.

Mr Prosper B. Caiquo, the District Electoral Officer and his team took participants through the requirements, the need for biometric and its implications, with emphasis on comprehensive and accurate register to replace the previous one.

He stressed that the biometric voters’ register would indeed prevent multiple registration as well as multiple voting.

Participants were taken though biometric voters’ registration process including practical demonstration.

Mr Caiquo said, even though the time duration is so short, he was hopeful that participants would impart the knowledge acquired to the electorate to ensure a successful registration exercise.

The District Electoral Officer said all Ghanaians 18 years and above of sound mind and residents in Ghana, should do well to register at their various registration centres within the stipulated 10 days from morning 7 am to 6 pm and cautioned applicants to wait and collect collect the new photo ID before they live for their homes.

The registration, he said, has been scheduled in four phases – phase one from March 24 to April 2; and the second phase from April 4 to April 13; the third phase from April 15 to April 24 while the fourth phase commences from April 26 to May 5. He appealed to the general public to cooperate with the registration officials to make the exercise a successful one.**
