Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam district allocated with exercise books and uniforms

Ajumako,(C/R), March 9, GNA-The government has allocated 13,000 packets of exercise books and a number of school uniforms to Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam district for free distribution to pupils in deprived school as part of efforts to promotion education in the country. He said the Ghana Education Service (GES) is arranging to cart the books and other learning materials to the district for quick distribution to the schools

Mr. Peter Light Koomson, District Chief Executive (DCE), made this known at a parade of school children to mark the 53rd Anniversary Celebration of the Ghana’s Independence at Ajumako in the Central Region. The DCE said the number of schools benefiting from the school feeding programme in the areas would be increased to cover more children. Mr. Koomson expressed regret about cases of teenage pregnancy in the district and called on parents, religious groups and other stakeholders in education to help reverse the trend. He said a recent survey conducted by the District Secretariat of the National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE)revealed that 49 per cent of the pregnancy cases involved very young female between the ages of 10 and 18.

According to him the situation was not just unacceptable but could also affect the girl child education in the area. Mr. Koomson said the Assembly would rehabilitate old school buildings and build new ones to improve conditions to enhance effective teaching and learning for the benefit of the people. The DCE said the government was doing everything possible to improve the living condition of the people. Nana Kwame Hammah Ababio II, Omanhene of Ajumako, who chaired the function, called on the stakeholders especially chiefs and parents to join the crusade against indiscipline, drug abuse and other social vices which militate against development of the district.
