Ajumako Assembly drags EC to court

Information reaching DAILY GUIDE indicates that some assembly members from the Ajumako-Enyan-Esiam (AEE) District would soon drag the Electoral Officer in the area, Fiifi Kaiko, to court for declaring the District Chief Executive (DCE), Peter Light Koomson winner after the confirmation ceremony.

According to the irate assembly members, Mr Koomson polled 45 votes out of 68 votes of assembly members present, representing 66.16 instead of the expected 66.67.

Mr Koomson was expected to garner 46 votes in order to be declared as winner according to the assembly members.

Some assembly members, in an interview after the ceremony, said standing orders 54.5 state that the new item or business shall only be introduced if three-quarters of the assembly members present vote in favour of the motion.

They were unhappy with the exclusion of the swearing in of the eight new government appointees in the agenda and described it as illegal.

They added that 75 per cent of the assembly members should have approved the original motion.

They disclosed that although some of the assembly members raised an objection, some National Democratic Congress (NDC) gurus asked them to continue with the ceremony.

They criticized the Regional Minister, Samuel Sarpong, who was present at the ceremony, for allegedly informing the assembly members that there is no law which cannot be changed except the 10 Commandments.

Mr Koomson was among seven DCEs who were earlier rejected by the assembly members.
