An Air Peace flight from Lagos to Port Harcourt caused a brief scare on Sunday morning after it overran the runway while attempting to land at the Port Harcourt International Airport.
The aircraft, operating flight P47190, had departed from Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed Airport earlier in the day and encountered a runway excursion upon arrival. According to a statement released by the airline’s spokesperson, Mr. Efe Osifo-Whiskey, the aircraft “veered slightly” off the runway during landing.
Despite the incident, no damage was reported, and all passengers were able to disembark safely and without injury.
“There were no injuries, and all passengers disembarked safely and calmly,” the statement confirmed.
The airline reassured the public of its safety standards, adding that the situation was handled in line with established protocols.
“We remain committed to maintaining the highest standards of safety in all our operations,” Mr. Osifo-Whiskey emphasized.
Airport authorities temporarily suspended runway operations to assess the situation, although full services have since resumed. Investigations are expected to be launched by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) to determine the cause of the runway deviation.
The incident comes as Nigeria’s aviation sector continues to face scrutiny over safety practices, with travelers calling for stronger oversight and infrastructure upgrades at key airports.
For now, Air Peace says it is cooperating fully with aviation authorities and maintains that passenger safety remains its top priority.
