Air Malta repatriates another 140 Ghanaians

Air Malta yesterday repatriated another 140 Ghanaians who were stranded in Tunisia due to the Libya crisis.

The national airline operated its first Malta-Djerba-Accra flight two days ago, carrying the first group of 140 passengers to Ghana.

The flights are financed by the Maltese government as part of its assistance in the humanitarian programme led by the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) and the International Organisation for Migration (IOM).

There may be other Air Malta flights from Djerba this week. Whether they will operate to Ghana or Egypt (as originally planned) depends on demand and availability.

Meanwhile, the Foreign Affairs Ministry said that all the Maltese people in Libya who wanted to come to Malta have been evacuated. Two of them were on their way home yesterday.
