Accra, Nov. 30, GNA – There are plans to establish a campus radio station at the Africa Institute of Journalism and Communications (AIJC) as part of its expansion programme.
The President of the Institute, Mr Kojo Yankah, speaking at the third matriculation ceremony of the school on Tuesday, said this would serve as a basis for running a radio-training programme at the Institute.
He said the school intended to come out with a newspaper to be run by the students to serve the Accra business area. Mr Yankah said the vision of the Institute was to train communication professionals, who could contribute to the socio-economic development of the country.
Professor Alex Quarmyne, a Communication Consultant and Executive Director of Radio Ada, said the growth of democratic governance, media pluralism and advancement in Information Communication Technology had contributed to development of journalism all over the world. He, therefore, urged Journalists to bring such skills to bear on their work by focusing on poverty eradication programmes in their communities.
The Institute was established in 2001 and given accreditation by the National Accreditation Board this year.
Some 140 students were admitted this year compared to 65 in 2003.
