Ahafo-Ano South hopes to exceed voters’ registration target

Mankranso (Ash), March 27, GNA- About 33,127 eligible voters out of the estimated 47,000 voters have registered in the Ahafo-Ano South district of Ashanti.
Mr Ernest Opoku, the District Electoral Officer, who disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) said this clearly showed how the people were conscious of their civic rights.
He said so far there had not been any serious incidents at any of the 15 registration centres in the district.
He said, however, that 229 challenge forms had been filled at some registration centres and named areas like Mankranso, Kunsu, Adugyama and Asibe-Nkwanta as places where people had been challenged on their eligibility to register.
Mr Opoku said the district review committee would examine these cases after the exercise.
He, however, appealed to people who had challenged the eligibility of a voter not to go beyond the challenge and take the law into their own hands since the Electoral Commission (EC) would deal with all cases judiciously.
