Agyina launches development programme

Agyina (B/A), June 10, GNA – Residents of Agyina in the Kintampo South District have launched a two-year-development programme to improve their lot.

Projects envisaged include the construction of teachers’ bungalow and boreholes and the rehabilitation of the local kindergarten.

Mr David Akabo-Mensah, Assembly Member, disclosed this in his maiden meeting with the community at the weekend during which he formally introduced the unit committee members to the people.

He said the projects would be funded through individual contributions and fund-raising harvests, as well as financial support from the District Assembly.

Mr Akabo-Mensah said there were plans to connect the area to the national electricity grid and that about 50 low tension poles had been secured for the project.

He commended the former District Chief Executive, Mr Yaw Adjei-Duffour and the incumbent Member of Parliament, Mr Yaw Effah-Barfi, for providing the community with the low tension poles.

He expressed concern about the poor state of the feeder roads to marketing centres and appealed to the district assembly to liaise with government to rehabilitate them to facilitate the movement of the people and their produce.

The settler farming community of Kankere near Agyina is to construct a kindergarten in the area, he said, and appealed to the district assembly to assist the community with roofing sheets towards the construction of the local market.

Mr Akabo-Mensah called on the people to forge ahead in unity and rally behind the community leaders so they would jointly promote the development of the area.

Meanwhile, non-resident citizens have been called upon to financially support the development programme.
