The Agona West constituency of the NPP would elect a new executive at an emergency delegates conference at Agona Abodom on Sunday.
This follows the dissolution of the old executive and the appointment of the Cape Coast Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Arafat Nuhu by the National Executive to steer the affairs of the constituency branch as a result of a dispute between the Interim Chairman, Mr Adofo Dwamena and members.
Three people, Mr Dwamena, a poultry farmer, Mr Yaw Akoto, a businessman and Nana Adams, a retired educationist are vying for the position of Chairman. Mr Dwamena was appointed Interim Chairman following the death of Mohammed Adu during the final stages of the 2000 electioneering campaign.
About five months ago, the National Executive dissolved the constituency executive over allegations including embezzlement against the Chairman. Members of the party GNA spoke with indicated the candidates for the top position were making frantic efforts to carry the day.
They, however, expressed the hope that the contestants would unite after the election to ensure victory in the area for the NPP in the 2004 elections.
