Agona West MP decries poor education standards

Mr Charles Obeng-Inkoom, Member of Parliament (MP) for Agona West, has appealed to the stakeholders in education in the Municipality to help improve education standards in the area.

He said out of 150 youth who submitted applications through him to be enlisted into Army and Police, only five of them qualified.

Mr Obeng-Inkoom made this known when he addressed a durbar of chiefs and people of Upper Bobikuma to mark their Akwanbo festival.

He said as his personal support for education, text books and other teaching materials bought from his share of the Common Fund had been given to the Agona West Municipal Educational Directorate for distribution to schools.

Nana Yaw Antwi Buabeng, Chief of Upper Bobikuma, said efforts were being made with the Ministry of Tourism to develop two rock sites in the town to attract tourism.

He said funds would be made available to schools in Upper Bobikuma to buy books and other teaching materials to improve education.

The chief said the people, through contributions, are building a bungalow for the Police Commander and nurses’ quarters.
