Agona Swedru, Aug. 8, GNA – The Agona West Municipal Assembly on Thursday inaugurated its Urban, Zonal and Town Councils at separate functions at Agona Swedru, Agona Abodom, Nyakrom and Agona Otsenkorang.

Mr Emmanuel Kweku Tetteh, Agona West Municipal Chief Executive who performed the inauguration, said the substructures are the foundations of the District, Municipal and Metropolitan Assemblies.

He said being the foundations, it was important they are strengthened to support the functions of the assemblies.

Mr Tetteh called on the council members to be time conscious and ensure the effective work of the assemblies.

He called on them to hold regular meetings to deliberate on issues pertaining to their welfare and the development of their areas.

He said that the local structures serve as important tools for the progress of the assemblies adding that their activities play a vital role in the assembly concept.

Mr Tetteh said the assembly would organize capacity building workshops for them so that they would be kept abreast with the tenets of the substructures.

Mr Samuel Oppong, Presiding Member of the Assembly, appealed to the members of the council to cooperate with the assembly members and called on them to see themselves as development partners and not as enemies.
