Agona Otapirow appeals for ECG meters

Otapirow (C/R), July 25, GNA – Chiefs and the people of Otapirow near Agona Swedru have appealed to the Ministry of Energy to supply them with electricity meters to enable them to connect power to their homes. Town was connected to the national grid in 2004 and was inaugurated during that year’s Akwanbo festival but the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has not provided them with meters. Streetlights are functioning but power cannot be used in their homes due to absence of meters.

Mr Joshua Danso, Assemblyman for Otapirow/Nkubem Electoral Area, told the GNA in an interview that petitions had been sent to Agona Swedru Area and Cape Coast Regional offices of the ECG but to no avail. He said promises made by the Member for Parliament for Agona West and District Chief Executive for Agona to supply meters had not been fulfilled.

Mr Bismarck Awuku, Swedru Area Manager of the ECG, said request for meters for the town had been sent to the regional ECG office in Cape Coast. He said assurance had been given that meters would be supplied as soon as they are available. 25 July 07
