Agona Nkwanta Police search for “Village Champions”

Accra, Dec. 8, GNA – The Agona Nkwanta Police in the Western Region on Wednesday appealed to the people of the Ahanta West District to assist them to arrest a group of people who beat up and stripped naked four young men from Apremdo till they fell unconscious.

A statement issued in Accra and signed by Chief Inspector A. K. Arthur for the Police Director of Public Relations, said on November 13, this year, four young men John Nat Panyin; Stephen Tandoh; James Andoh and Stephen Ansah were passing through the Ampatane village in a taxicab to transact business at another village.

It said on reaching Ampatane at about 1730 hours, the four decided to stop to enquire about someone but some people immediately surrounded them and accused them of being armed robbers. The Police said the explanation given by the four fell on deaf ears. They were beaten up and tied up.

The Chief of Ampatane called in the Agona Nkwanta Police to rescue them at about 2330 hours.

The Police said the four were on admission at the Dixcove Hospital. The statement said some people, who realised that the four men were not armed robbers and attempted to rescue them, were also assaulted by the mob. Police investigations are continuing.
