Agona East is no more stronghold of NDC – NPP Chairman

Agona Nsaba (C/R), Dec 17, GNA – Mr Alex Nkansah-Anyanful, Agona East Constituency Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has stated that the constituency, which was considered as a National Democratic Congress (NDC) stronghold had been broken.

He said apart from the Volta Region, which was “the NDC World Bank” Agona East was also counted as one but the jinx was broken in the December 7 2004 general election.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview at Nsaba, Mr Nkansah-Anyanful said that the NPP clinched victory in the elections because “the party strengthened its structures from the constituency to the polling station level”.

He said now that the seat had been captured by NPP the constituency executives and polling stations chairmen of the party would do everything possible to ensure that the living standard of the people was improved.

Mr Nkansah-Anyanful stated that with the able leadership of MP-elect, Mr John Kwesi Agyabeng who was the District Chief Executive (DCE), “the constituency would never be surrendered to the NDC” and said the NPP would continue to work hard to the satisfaction of the electorate. The Chairman said the government had kept faith with the people in the area in terms of development projects especially in the areas of education, health, sanitation, roads and potable water.

He thanked the electorate for voting massively for President Kufuor, the NPP and the MP-elect and gave the assurance that the government would continue to implement policies and programmes that would improve their lives.

Mr Nkansah-Anyanful stated that the people lost hope in NDC and decided to vote for the NPP to continue its good work. The Chairman praised Mr Agyabeng for working very hard as the DCE and implemented an aggressive facelift in the District, which inspired the people to vote for the NPP.
