Agona East Assembly puts in measures to promote education

Agona Nsaba (C/R), Jan. 11, GNA – The Agona East District Assembly has put in place measures to raise education standards in the district, Mr John Oremus Arko, the District Chief Executive, has said at as assembly meeting at Agona Nsaba. The measures include provision of classrooms, teachers’ quarters, establishment of an Education Fund and undertaking aggressive education throughout the district on the importance of education. The others are supporting teacher students in tertiary institution, motivating pupils especially the brilliant but needy ones by the award of scholarships, school uniforms and school materials. Mr Arko said a review of performance over the year past showed a poor performance and absence of individual brilliance especially in the public schools.

He said no child from eight schools in the district gained between aggregates 6 and 36 to gain admission to senior high school in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) last year. He said a committee of stakeholders will be formed early this year to find out why this abysmal performance came about. “Even though some moderate achievements were made in the construction of educational infrastructure such as classroom blocks, a lot still remains to be done in that area”. Mr Arko said an Information Communication Technology Centres would be established at Agona Nsaba, Agona Duakwa, Agona Kwanyako and Agona Mankrong. 11 Jan. 10
