Agona Swedru, Dec. 27, GNA – The Agona District Mutual Health Insurance Scheme has signed an agreement with three hospitals in the Central Region to enable its clients access medical care. They are Breman Asikuma Catholic, Apam Catholic and Winneba Government hospitals.
Nana Kojo Frempong, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Scheme announced this at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the scheme at Agona Swedru.
He explained that most of its clients were living and working in those areas therefore, the agreement to enable them access improved health care delivery.
Nana Frempong said the scheme was negotiating with the National Health Insurance Council, for its clients to access health care in all government hospitals in the country including Korle-Bu and Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospitals in Accra and Kumasi. He said the scheme had so far registered 50,986 clients since its inception in 2005, and realised about 329 million cedis from 32,919 clients as premium.
The scheme has paid 1.5 billion cedis as claims to 12,732 clients. Nana Frempong was optimistic the scheme would increase its clients to 80,000 next year because many people were anxious to register. However, he expressed concern about the un-cooperative attitude of some health providers towards its clients with exorbitant charges that affected its operations and morale of the clients. Nana Frempong expressed appreciation to the hardworking scheme collectors, chiefs and citizens in the Agona District for the patronage of the scheme.
Mr Samuel Nyakoh-Agyiri, Scheme Manager appealed to the people to co-operate and support implementation of the scheme.
