AGLA honors Professor Victor Essien, Fordham Law School on August 3
AGLA will honor Professor Victor Essien, Adjunct Professor of law at Fordham University School of Law, at its 1st Annual Dinner Dance at the Gran Centurions in New Jersey on Saturday, August 3. Professor Essien teaches various courses including Multinational Corporations Law, International Investment Law, and International Oil and Gas Law at Fordham Law School in New York. Besides teaching at Fordham, Professor Essien has been involved in legal education in Ghana through Fordham’s summer law program held in Ghana every year. Professor Essien had been a Legal Assistant to the U.S.-Iran Claims Tribunal in The Hague, the Netherlands and served as a Consultant to the United Nations Centre on Transnational Corporations. He started his teaching career at the University of Ghana Law Faculty, Legon and the University of Jos Law Faculty in Jos, Nigeria. He is also a Patron of the Kwakwaduam Association, Inc., the Akan Association of New York, Inc., and the Ghana Methodist Church Choir in New York City. He serves on the Board of Advisors of the National Council of Ghanaian Associations (NCOGA), the Board of Directors of the International Healthcare Volunteers (IHCV) and the Institute of Diplomatic Practice and Development Policies (I-2DP) based in Accra, Ghana.
Speaking on Professor Essien’s choice as AGLA’s sole honoree for this year’s event, AGLA President, Kwaku Boafoh Agyeman, said “Professor Essien really chooses himself by his acts and commitment to our association, his work at Fordham Law School and his involvement with the development of the law in Ghana.” “AGLA is truly proud to be associated with Victor Essien for all that he does to assist and inspire younger attorneys,” added Mr. Agyeman. Professor Essien has helped many law students from Ghana to acclimatize to their new law school environment and has been instrumental in many initiatives that AGLA has been involved in. The Association plans on spotlighting and honoring attorneys of Ghanaian descent whose work and commitment to the practice of law is exemplary.
AGLA is set up to provide a forum for Ghanaian lawyers in the United States to address matters relevant to their profession, to advocate and support the advancement of Ghana and its people while serving as a dominant link between Ghana and the United States.
