AGI visits flood affected companies

The leadership of the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), has paid a visit to industries affected by the June 3 flood to commiserate with the owners.

The delegation, led by Mr James Asare-Adjei, the AGI President, visited some companies in the Kaneshie area.

They interacted with officials of Kane-EM Industries Limited, MANTRAC Company Limited, among others.

Mr Asare- Adjei stated that many members of AGI had their business premises, properties and equipment destroyed by the floods.

He said the disaster had also come at a time when businesses were going through difficult times due to the instability of the economy.

“The rains have just begun and AGI is calling on the Central Government, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies, as well as the National Disaster Management Organization to quickly intensify measures to avert future disasters and to ensure the continuity of business,” he said.

The AGI president also expressed the Association’s condolence to all those who lost their loved ones in the flood-fire outbreak at the GOIL Filling Station.

Sunil G. Wadhwani, the Director of Kane-EM Industries Limited, blamed the flood on the poor drainage system in the area, which he said, continued to haunt companies anytime it rained.

He gave the assurance that the plastic manufacturing company, which had been operating for 39 years, though severely affected by the flood, would not lay off any staff.

He, however, called on the city authorities to find lasting solution to the drainage system in Accra.
