Aggudey’s properties to be auctioned?

A staunch member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Asamoah Gyamfi believes one-time flagbearer of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) brought his current predicament on himself.

Mr Aggudey has been imprisoned for three months for failing to pay SSNIT contribution of his workers since 2001.

To him, the former CPP flagbearer violated the law of the Pension Act which mandates employers to pay SSNIT contributions for their employees as retirement benefits.

Speaking on OKAY FM, he cautioned that what has happened to Mr. Aggudey should be taken seriously because with the help of the Attorney General and the Supreme Court, SSNIT has been given a special court to handle its (SSNIT’s) defaulters.

A three-month sentence was handed the former CPP presidential candidate by an Accra District Court sitting on Saturday as SSNIT court, and presided over by Aboagye Tandoh.

Mr. Aggudey defaulted on SSNIT contributions of his workers at Gocrest Security Company to the tune of GH¢2.6million. Mr. Aggudey, the owner of Gocrest Security Company, one of the foremost private security companies in Ghana, was immediately whisked away to serve his jail-term after the sentence was pronounced.

The embattled politician has also been ordered to settle the arrears to SSNIT.

Additionally, the court fined him 300 penalty units, failure of which would earn him 18 months in jail.

When asked of the fate of George Aggudey for failure to pay the arrears after his jail term, the NPP communicator said “the option will be to auction his properties to settle the SSNIT arrears, if he fails to pay after the prison sentence”.
