KONADU RAISES $10M
-From Sale of Lands at Cantonment
-As Campaign Funds for NDP
In her frenetic but evil quest to ensure that Professor John Evans Atta Mills of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) becomes a one term president, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings is stopping at nothing to achieve her mischievous heart desire.
After her failed bid to unseat John Atta Mills as presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for this year’s presidential polls at the party’s primaries at Sunyani last year, Konadu, a former vice-chairperson of the party, together with some disgruntled members of the NDC are reported to have floated a new party.
Though the new party, the National Democratic Party (NDP), is yet to be certified by the Electoral Commission (EC), Konadu and her cohorts are not leaving anything to chance, especially on the question of financing the infant party.
Nana Konadu, who is also the wife of the NDC founder and former president, Jerry John Rawlings according to a close source speaking to The Al-Hajj on strict condition of anonymity, is reported to have offered for sale four large tract of state lands she dubiously acquired at prime Cantonments area in Accra during the 19-year reign of her husband, Jerry Rawlings.
Though our source was unable to confirm whether the deal has finally been sealed, the source was nevertheless insistent that both parties have agreed and settled on US$2.5 million per plot or US$10 million (about C200 billion) for the four plots of land.
According to the source, even though the president of the 31st December Women’s Movement has already mobilized most of the logistics required for the new party, including pick-up vehicles, office equipments and paraphernalia, she urgently needed this money in view of unforeseen developments with party organization.
“Much as I know madam has already procured majority of what is needed for the NDP’s campaign in this year’s election, she still needed this money because of recent unanticipated circumstances”. Our source disclosed.
It will be recalled that associates and family friends of Mrs. Konadu Agyeman Rawlings in the early nineties were reported to have acquired the now defunct state hotel, the Star Hotel at Cantonment, then under divestiture, for the construction of a five star hotel and a leisure complex.
However, investigation later conducted by the Police CID, headed by Commissioner Sam Awortwi during the Kufuor regime revealed that, Nana Konadu’s associates did not put up any hotel but rather built chalets on the demolished Star Hotel land and sold them to the public and transferred the proceeds to their company abroad. Part of the remaining land is now being offered for sale.
