Aged Urged To Impart Knowledge On Youth

Abetifi (Eastern Region), 6 Oct.,

The Kwahu South District Chief Executive, Mr Opoku Preko, has called on the aged to impart some of their knowledge and experience to the youth. He said they still have a significant role to play in nurturing the youth for the country’s development. Mr Preko was addressing over 50 aged persons at a get-together organised by Nananom Club, a benevolent society for the aged, at Abetifi as part of the activities marking international day for the aged in the district at the weekend. He said the society has a moral responsibility to care for the aged and called on organisations and individuals to support them. The district chief executive said the government has great respect for the aged and recognises the important role they have played in the development of the country’s economy. He said that explains why it has set aside 1st July to honour the country’s senior citizens. In a speech read on her behalf, the president of the club, Ms Joyce Preko, said the club has plans to cater for the health needs of the aged in the area and appealed to the district assembly and the district health service for assistance. She appealed to NGOs and other philanthropist to donate drugs to improve the health of the aged. The queenmother of Abetifi, Nana Abena Animwaa, commended the club for its assistance and called on the aged in the town to register with the club and attend meetings regularly to enable them to forget some of their problems.
