Agbogbloshie feud: Relocation will not resolve the feud – Dagomba Youth

Abdulai Iddrisu, spokesperson of the Dagomba Youth Association, said calls for the relocation of settlers at the Old Fadama, a suburb of Accra, over Tuesday’s clash between Dagombas and Konkombas there will not resolve the feud between the two tribes.

According to him, dialogue with stakeholders is what will deal with the issue instead of resettlement.

His comments come in the wake of a proposal by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), David Asante-Apeatu, to relocate the Yam Market at Agbogbloshie in order to deal with crime and lawlessness in the area

A total of five persons have been picked up in relation to the deadly clash between Dagombas and Konkombas which happened on Tuesday, April 11.

Locally manufactured weapons were retrieved from some of the suspects who are now in police custody.

The clash has resulted in two deaths with several injured as over 30 persons have also been displaced.

The IGP, while addressing a press conference in Accra on Wednesday, April 12, explained: “One major solution to this is for us to ensure that the people are relocated.”

But speaking in an interview with Chief Jerry Forson, host of Ghana Yensom on Accra100.5FM on Friday April 14, Iddrisu said: “There is no peace among us now and so will the state relocate all the 16 tribes to different places or the same place?

“It is as if we are animals, as if we don’t have brains. If you have any intention of relocating us, the best thing is to meet us and dialogue with us on the way forward, rather than pronouncements in the media.”
