Agambila calls on Christians to impact positive change in attitudes

Ho, June 5, GNA – Dr Gheysika Agambila, Deputy Minister of Environment and Science on Sunday called on Christians to initiate positive actions towards changing people’s attitude to the environment. The call was contained in a circular to all religious organizations and read by Dr Agambila at the Sacred Heart Cathedral of the Roman Catholic Church, Ho-Bankoe and the Dela Cathedral of the E.P. Church Ho-Kpodzi, respectively on Sunday as part of activities to mark World Environment Day.

Mr Agambila lamented that greed, avarice and outright selfishness have driven individuals and organizations to renege on the “creators commandment to tend and replenish the earth”. He said the result was the wanton devastation of the world’s rich natural resources, particularly, biodiversity, water resources, fertile lands and the degradation of rich habitats.

Mr Agambila therefore called for concerted efforts of all religious bodies and other stakeholders to provide immediate and long-term solutions to the environmental problems and to secure the country’s natural resources for posterity.

The Day is being celebrated globally on the theme: “Green Cities, Plan for the Planet” while Ghana is marking it on the theme: “Green Communities, Healthy People” to draw attention to ways in which human activities are threatening the earth.
