AGA invests more than GH¢160,000 in School Fencing Project

Obuasi (Ash), Oct. 11, GNA – AngloGold Ashanti (AGA)-Obuasi has initiated a GH¢160,000 project to fence a number of basic schools situated along the principal roads of Obuasi Municipality. The capital intensive project, which formed part of the company’s corporate social responsibilities, also aims at preventing the campuses of the beneficiary schools from intruders, and make teaching and learning conducive.

The compounds of some of the schools have been turned into refuse dump and invaded by wee smokers.

Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony to start, Mr Emmanuel Bartels, Engineering Manager of AGA in charge of Projects, said fencing of the schools would promote quality education. Mr John Alexander Ackon, Municipal Chief Executive praised the new leadership of company, saying: 93I must place on record the massive support AGA is doing for the Assembly and the people of Obuasi in recent times.”

He said the company had linked its corporate social responsibilities to the aspirations and the developmental needs of the people.

The Municipal Director of Education, Mr Johnny Owusu-Boadi said the project was laudable because it would end public disturbance to classroom work. Mr Charles Kumah, Project Consultant said the job would be completed in record time.
