Afua Kobi Girls institute scholarship scheme

Trabuom (Ash), Feb 17, GNA – A scholarship scheme that will provide free secondary education to junior secondary school students who select Afua Kobi Ampem Girls Secondary School as their first choice and obtain 10 ones takes off in year 2007.

Mrs Victoria Annan, the Headmistress who announced this at a special meeting of parents of the final-year students of the school at Trabuom, said in some situations those with nine ones would also be considered for the scholarship.

The headmistress said the scheme was expected to encourage brilliant students to select the school as their first choice. She urged parents to encourage their wards to study hard and also select the school as their first choice in order to benefit from the facility.

Mrs Annan said the school was in the process of getting a number of facilities and that a new dormitory project being provided by the GETFund is on going.

Touching on indiscipline that was a subject matter for the meeting, the headmistress said, “What disturbs us now is the breaking of bonds by the final-year students”.

She appealed to the parents to advise their wards to embrace discipline and also stay in school and study.

Mr Charles Gyawuh, the chairman of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) drew parents attention to the recently introduced Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE) league table and said public expectation on the school was high and therefore stressed the need for them to assist their wards to improve the performance this year. Mr Gyawuh said the security of the school was paramount to the PTA and that was why it had started constructing fence wall and also engaged the services of five watchmen.

The chairman said a programme to institute best teacher award for tutors in the school would be launched soon.
