Afriyie Ankrah chides NPP Scribe

A Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, has taken strong exception to the NPP Ashanti regional secretary’s comments which suggested that the NDC’s presence in Kumasi was an intrusion of aliens.

The Minister, whilst urging Sam Pynn to render an unqualified apology for his alleged unsavoury statement insisted that such slanderous utterances could plunge the nation into anarchy.

The New Patriotic Party scribe is reported to have labelled the presence of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) members in the Ashanti Region as a “serious invasion of aliens”.

Mr. Pynn’s assertion, however, attracted a storm of criticism from a section of the public urging the NPP to call him to order.

“Mr. Pynn’s statement clearly threatens the peace and stability of the nation and it is important the leadership of the NPP call him to order. It was so ethnocentric and inconsiderate, and that was unacceptable,” Mr. Afriyie Ankrah reportedly told journalists on the sidelines of the NDC congress on Thursday.

In the estimation of the Minister, such divisive pronouncements would give Ghanaians a fair idea of what the NPP stand for as a political party.

“Pynn’s statement is not surprising because it is synonymous to the all-die-be-die by their flag bearer, and other statements made by certain elements of the party, and it is typical of the NPP,” the Minister inferred.

It was in this direction that Mr. Afriyie Ankrah called on the electorates to give the NDC and President John Mahama a resounding victory over the NPP’s candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo, in the impending general elections.
